The three of us hadn’t played music together for a very long time— over 2 years. As life got in the way, we kind of forgot to take care of a really important part of ourselves. So we decided to find a free afternoon to make music in the most organic, joyful way possible.

And not with the usual instruments we reached for when making a record.

Instead we grabbed instruments and gadgets that delighted us at the time -- electric mandolin, banjo, acoustic guitars, and lots of pedals.

We also eschewed any planned approach…no riffs, no discussion of what it should sound like, no songs. Setting up mics was more of an afterthought, but we’re glad we did.

We love the results. What came out of us was a sort of long overdue conversation among close friends, in a language we’d never used, but that was uniquely ours — a sort of Appalachian Krautrock.

We played all afternoon and ended up with 90 minutes of recorded music. Here are two selections, which we've edited down to fit on an LP. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
